For anyone who is interested, I have written a trip report with photos of the Choctawhatchee River area. I tried to keep the image sizes small for those with a dial-up connection, I apologize if the page loads slowly. I did not go into a lot of detail about where we searched, but I have included a lot of photos to show birders what the area looks like. No we did not see any Ivory-billed Woodpeckers nor did we hear any double knocks. We had one call that may or may not have been the call of one. What ever made the call only did it one time so it was hard to tell what it may have been. I am thankful for the person responsible for letting me know details early on in order to make this trip. I encourage birders to go but please bring a video camera to document this bird if it in fact still exist. From what I saw of the area, I feel confident that if this bird does exist it would exist along the Choctawhatchee River. There is some wonderful and beautiful forest that I was happy to be able to search despite numerous mosquitoes, Wild Boars, venomous snakes, high humidity, rain and areas of standing water that made traveling tricky. My advice for those that go is to be sure to bring a GPS unit as well as a compass so you don't get lost. Geoff Hill and Dan Mennill's websites are linked in my trip report. They have listed many good areas to search, be sure to get good maps for the area as well.
