I saw a flock of 14 Black Scoters, as a fly-by close to shore, off South Hutchinson Island in Jensen Beach this past Saturday (Sept. 30). This was about a mile north of the Marriott, on the beach off Island Club. There is public beach access just to the north. I have seen them before during fall migration, but it's usually later, often in early December.
The silver mullet are running, which often brings sharks into the surf zone. Didn't see any sharks this weekend, but jacks and ospreys were enjoying very successful hunts.
