A few years ago I observed a Black-necked Stilt escape repeated attacks by a Peregine Falcon at Snake Bight by entirely submerging itself. Between attacks the stilt would fly a short distance towards cover then dive under water as the falcon came around again. The falcon finally gave up when the stilt dove into the middle of a large group of White Ibis standing in close ranks on the mud flat.
