A group of intrepid birders sought long and hard for the wheatear this morning, but when I left at 11:30, no one had seen it. I also searched the property across the street, where the Research Center is. The grass is shorter around the helipad, and the area is so peaceful that a pair of deer were lounging undere a tree,like a picnic, but no wheatear there either. It seems rather strange that an open-ground bird like this would have retreated into the Brazilian Pepper.
