The banding origin of this bird is complete with an email today from the bander. The bird (male) was banded 6/12/02 on Magdalen Islands, Quebec. It was observed with 3 young on 7/22/02 and then on Crandon Beach 8/20/02. Cool beans!
The information process is interesting; Army Corps of Engineers in SD filters and sends info to Canadian Wildlife Services. The individual banders are then notified and they respond to the observers. There were 6 banded Piping Plovers that overwintered on Crandon Beach last year. Email me if anyone wants information on their origin.
