This afternoon there was a basic-plumaged American Golden-Plover on Crandon Flats. In addition to the usual field marks of thin, smallish bill, light underwings, dark tail/rump, it appeared brown next to Black-bellied Plovers in basic plumage (grayish).

With the usual wintering shorebirds, gulls and terns: 5 Common Terns (uncommon for Crandon), ~12 Sandwich Terns, Reddish Egret, 4 Willets, 15 Black Skimmers, 3 Caspian Terns, FOS Herring Gull and a beautiful adult Lesser Black-backed Gull that arrived last weekend. I assume the 6 dowitchers to be Short-billed, due to habitat and flat-backed appearance. I was too far away to hear them "murmuring" as they do when feeding.
