Extremely and unusually quiet Sunday morning. Even the blue-jays were silent.
We enjoyed meeting the birders that stopped by and giving the tour. Now you know you way.
Now the bad news; at 4:30 PM we had a minor fall-out, perhaps a drop in would be better. There were 10 blue-grays, three prairie warblers, a very tame brown thrasher that practically demanded that I fill the feeder, and several more lgbs that managed to elude a clear sighting. Sorry you missed it. Two otter were sighted on the bank at the SE corner. Black and Turkey vultures at very high altitude floating south on the N by NE wind. The screech owl came out at 6:45 and surveyed all his kingdom. Such a "cheeky" little guy. It sits so long at the opening and seems so stable I wonder if it is holding on to the side woodpecker style or does it just strrrreeettttccchhhhhhh its neck?
I'll have to research that.......some day.
And my thanks to John Cornell for those outstanding pictures of the Northern Flicker at the nest. The tree went down in Hurricane Wilma so you are assured of having a "singular event." For the TAS'ers that didn't see it, the nest was in a cabbage palm stump. The nest was exactly three feet from ground level. The photographers had a real "gimme" there.
