I just wanted to remind birders, photographers, bicylists that the next opportunity to bird STA-5 (Stormwater Treatment Area) in Hendry County, south of Clewiston, will be Saturday, September 23 at 8:30 a.m. STA-5 is not normally open to birders but due to efforts of the recently formed Hendry-Glades Audubon Society, in cooperation with the South Florida Water Management District, birders,photographers, bicyclers may go on scheduled tours once day a month May - October and twice a month November - April To carpool meet at the LaBelle McDonald's at 7:00AM or the Clewiston McDonald's at 7:45AM or meet at the STA5 gate at 8:30 a.m. We will be allowed to drive or bicycle 6 miles around the northeast impoundment at STA-5. To sign-up for the STA-5 trip, contact Margaret England at sta5birding@earthlink.net with your name and contact information including an emergency cell number and the number in your party. The last 2.5 miles to STA5 is a dirt road with potholes.
