Around noon, I heard a whistle in my back yard. Thinking it was a spot breasted, I was much surprised to see a different bird in my hibiscus.( I knew immediately that it was not a spot breasted oriole because the coloring was much duller and the bird was smaller).
After looking in several field guides ( I ruled out tanagers pretty quickly), I also noted the smaller size ( listed as around 7 1/2 inches) and the chestnut-rusty color. I noted the gray and white on the wing( I am sure this was a male). This bird was elusive, even much more than a Northern or spotbreasted.
Sure wish these migrants would show up on the weekend when I have more time to look!
