Last night around 9PM and again around 10PM I went outside (Key Largo) and heard nonstop (about 1 every 5 seconds) Green Heron calls overhead. This seems a bit earlier than most of the fall records of migrants in Stevenson and Anderson, but then again it appears that not to much is known of their fall migration. I wasn't able to detect any other species calling, but then I only spent about 5 minutes listening. It was just fun to know that something was moving.
Other migrants in the keys have just been trickling in. All of the typical early birds (Purple Martin, Barn Swallow, Gnatcatcher, Parula, Redstart, B&W, Yellow-throated, and Prairie) are around in low numbers. Maybe we'll get our first good push in the next week or so.
