Hi Linda,

There are nine species of ibises that are native to Africa. I'm guessing that you saw a Sacred Ibis, which is the only African species of ibis that has been reported in Florida. They are increasing in the southeastern peninsula after reportedly escaping from Miami MetroZoo following Hurricane _Andrew_ in Aug 1992. Two pairs of Sacred Ibises were found nesting in the Everglades earlier this year, and there have been several reports posted to this list.
