The mottled underparts of the Golden Plover had me going for a while. The bird had enough white on the flanks and under the tail to make it look like the illustration of a full alternate plumage Pacific in Sibley, but since the bird was in transition this wasn't conclusive. The long primary extension of the bird also gave me pause; Sibley has the primary extension diagrams reversed underneath the main species descriptions and it took me a while to notice the labels over the diagrams and become convinced that it was an American Golden Plover.
