I also usually had the hummers return in August at my old abode.
Chinese hat plant was the big draw for me early in the season, although they also liked the pentas, firebush, porterweed , pavonia etc.
Later in the winter they would not feed as heavily at the feeders or butterfly plants with the exception of that Chinese hat plant and the orchid tree (bauhinia sp.)
I have fingers crossed and new firebush and chinese hats in the ground -just patiently waiting to see if I have hummers here this year!
