Vince,
I was wondering if you were aware of the Purple Swamphen Survey, an effort coordinated in part by Scott Hardin of the FWC and Skip Snow of the NPS. Since you bird the STA's often, it would be great to have you and other birders log these PUSW observations and submit them. You may already have the log sheets but if you don't, let me know and I'll forward you the email that was sent to me. These folks are more interested in observations made far away from public areas, like the STA's and WCA's but not the Pembroke Pines mitigation parcels. They feel the birds are established enough to possibly impact our native gallinule/moorhen species. I wish they would've started this survey earlier (if they did, yesterday was the first I heard of it) since I've been seeing PUSW's on a regular basis in NE WCA-3A. The Purple Gallinule population there still looks healthy, for now. Also, any other birder who regularly birds these areas, please do not hesitate to email me to obtain these data sheets and an explanation of the survey in pdf form.
Cheers,
RJ
