After this morning's trip to STA-5, I stopped at a flooded field on US 27 just south of the big transmission tower. There were lots of shorebirds in alternate plumage, pectorals, dowitchers, stilt sandpipers, both yellowlegs. This bird was unusual, in fact I first thought of a rufous-necked stint, its head and breast were so rufous. It was too big, however. I got some video from the car, but on closer approach, couldn't relocate the bird (maybe because it was really one of the pectorals.) It did have a rusty cap, but the supercilium isn't very white. Any thoughts?
