Having recently moved from another house here in the Redland,I have been disappointed in the meager selection of bird life at this new abode ( having left a painted bunting haven, grackles just are boring).
So this morning I made a brief pilgrimage to MallWart to pick up some hummingbird plants.
Arriving back at the house at about noon and unloading said plants, something caught my eye-flying over the new yard and hunting was a Swallowtail kite!!OMG! My most favorite of birds AND IN MY YARD!
I watched in awe as it soared at eye level with the upstairs deck and then swore because there was no camera close by.
I found another waaay up high , just a speck in the clouds and so went back to unloading the car. Minutes later, the first SWTK returned bringing with it another and they both flew wingtip to wingtip over my house.
I guess this means I have a First of the year- First in my life in MY OWN YARD SWTK.
