I think our Government (dare I say from the Top on down), has been hitting the mercury bottle of late, and is suffering from severe brain damage. This article, referenced by Vince, provodes a perfect example. It says that Lake Okeechobee has been ruined, partly by diking it. The Government's solution: why, build a second diked lake, of course!
They then go on to say that the new lake is to store water to relieve the "overfull" Lake Okeechobee, and that this water can be used to replentish the Everglades during drought. Am I missing something, or if Lake Okeechobee is too full, why not just release water from it to the Everglades? Duuuhhh. I wonder what indirect benefits those altruistic, cane-growing sweetie-pies will get from this.
