While on my way to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park yesterday I did some scouting for flooded fields and other potentially good early fall birding areas in the Belle Glade area. I d had little luck until I checked my last area, a dirt road that runs south from S.R. 880 about 6.5 miles east of Browns Farm Road (Pranty Pg. 212) that is marked by a sign that says Roth Sod . A little bit past the sod fields that extend for a mile or two down the west side of this road are two very large recently flooded fields on either side of the road. Several Black Terns were flying over the area and several Stilt Sandpipers and Long-billed Dowitchers were feeding in a shallow spot on the west side. Both Yellowlegs were present along with Black-bellied Plovers, a Fulvous Whistling-Duck, and the usual mix of summer residents. On the east side near the beginning of this road is another large area that had been flooded but has been recently drawn down. This area had large numbers of waders and shorebirds including Least Sandpipers and possibly a few Semipalmated Sandpipers. On the other side of the road in a wet sod field there were a few Pectoral Sandpipers among the Yellowlegs and Black-necked Stilts.

The only other interesting birds seen in the area were a couple of Cave Swallows on C.R. 827 a little west of U.S. 27, a Bank Swallow along with a Fulvous Whistling-Duck on Browns Farm Road, and small flocks of Barn Swallows scattered throughout the area.
