Rock has been telling me for the last year about all of the cool places he is
able to go regularly out in the Everglade. I finally was able to go out with him
to help and "take a few photos. The place is immense. We traveled a good 30 to
40 minutes north from Tammiami before stopping to do the tasks at hand. Wildlife
was abundant and the variety was great. We saw almost all of the waders, Snail
Kites, a few Warbler species, Pileated Woodpeckers, a King Rail, Eastern
Kingbirds and most everything else you would expect to see, like gators. I also
was introduces to a lot of little critters as the sampling was done.

Rock Jetty and Harold took me with them to do some specimen sampling for
research in the Everglades north of Tammiami.

I believe Rock said this was a Four Spot Pennant.

This is the first Blue-grey Gnatcatcher I've seen since last winter. (the season
:-) )

This Black and White Warble entertained us while we had a lunch break inside one
of the Cypress Islands/Mounds...

A young King Rail watched us eat lunch also, which was a year bird for me...

This was the first Snail Kite we saw

and we saw many...

I'm not kidding!

Rock game me the name of this one, but I can't remember???

One more Snail Kite photo...

We spent most of the day doing 1x1 meter surveys. Identifying, counting and
measuring all the life found within.

Procedures were follow strictly so as to not compromise the on going study that
is a part of the Everglades Restoration Project.

I thought I had seen the Everglades, but after today I know there is much, much
more to see and explore.

Thanks Rock and Harold for letting me tag along.
