I am sorry to hear about Bob Kelley. I will miss our correspondence. I hope he is in a better place. Moving on. . . . The STA-5 Bird Checklist that Margaret England and I are compiling is very much a "work in progress". It is for STA-5 only. However, Michael Chimney, Lead Environmental Scientist, Everglades Division of the SFWMD has a more comprehensive list that includes both STA-5 & STA-1W. On Michael's checklist, Snail Kite has been recorded for STA-1W but not for STA-5. Margaret & I have not recorded Snail Kite at STA-5 either. However, I have seen Snail Kite about one mile west of where Blumberg Rd. intersects with CR 835 so I'm not surprised that it should be found at STA-5. We will look for it on July 29th. Thanks for reporting this sighting and congratulations on adding a new bird to the ever-growing list of birds seen at STA-5. To anyone else who has a list of birds that they have seen at either STA-5 or STA-1W, please send it to me so that we may add any new birds to the checklist for these sites.
