Miami Shores- Nothing Much

Not much is happening here in Miami Shores. I expect to see the first gnatcatchers in two weeks or so. Cooper's Hawks are daily if around the Miami Shores Recreation Center, and Chimney Swifts bred successfully. While jogging the other day at dusk, two Eastern Screech-Owls flew out of a ficus tree and perched on a wire, oblivious to me taking a break to watch them.

Between July 24 and August 2, my mom plans to take me on a statewide trip. We plan on going to Tampa first to check out University of South Florida. Good thing Black-hooded Parakeet was just added to the Florida list! Between Tampa and Tallahassee, I wan to make an attempt for Budgerigar in Hernando Beach. I should pick up my first Mississippi Kite in Tallahassee with out much trouble. A trip to St. Marks should pick me up my life Clapper Rail, as well as plenty of year birds. We will be spending at least two nights in the beautiful Wakulla Springs State Park lodge, and perhaps one night in Tallahassee itself. I should pick up my state White-breasted Nuthatch, as Tall Timbers (may also have state Hairy Woodpecker) and several locations for them will be in order. Oh, how could I forget. We are visiting Florida State University too.

After a quick stop in Gainesville to see what University of Florida has too offer (and quite a lot for someone looking to study biology). I should pick up more Mississippi Kites there.

After a day or two in Orlando to visit Univesity of Central Florida and Sea World, we will head back down to Miami. I should be able to pick up my 300 state bird on the trip, for anyone who might care ;) I'm at 296 now, and two the kite and rail are easy in the appropriate areas.
