...as we wait for early migrants & sodbirds. Most birding right now is armchair, as I sort through the latest AOU taxonomy (was my lifer a Dusky Grouse or a Sooty Grouse?) and re-order my checklist (Tringapalooza!)
Chimney Swifts appear to have bred successfuly in my area (just west of The Falls); most of the summer I saw a group of about 4 flying around, but this past weekend there were 12-15 birds in the group.
Spot-breasted Orioles have become more visible, with 1-2 visiting our yard daily (but not set as to particular times), and a pair of Loggerhead Shrikes with 3 HY young has been vocal in the yard as well. A fair number of Purple Martins also pass overhead most late afternoons.
