LAy them on the ground and plant peperomia in them. Also, Florida violets, and most any ground orchid as well as ferns. There is a lot of life giving to dead palms.

Here at Hoechola Hammock we collect the palm trunks and, as you, use them for woodpecker homes. Drill a hole in the ground, drop the trunk in, tilt it sideways, chip out a little on the underside to let the woodpecker know where you want him to go, not that they really pay attention, and you are in the woodpecker nesting business.

I have experienced two clutches often with the red-bellied. Yet to see it with the flicker.
