At what time in a.m. did you arrive in the area? Also, where is the Myiarchus flycatcher native to? It sounds like we saw the same bird on Friday morning at about 9a.m. I could not identify this bird in the peterson eastern field guide. thanks for the directions, I found the Hammock without any problems. Dolora: This morning Bill Boeringer, John Boyd and I explored the Lucky Hammock area. Best birds were 5 Upland Sandpipers very close to the road. On #9336 ~1/4 mile before the Youth Camp sign, is a field with bright green grass. Just as we were saying "This sure does look like Uppie habitat...", we spotted them. Another bird was in the plowed field just west of the hardwood hammock.
: The hammock area was pretty quiet, aside from an interesting Myiarchus flycatcher. We each saw different parts of the bird; no conclusion was reached other than it will be a good idea to relocate it. It seemed to prefer the top 1/3 of thickly vegetated trees and was difficult to track. Vent area and flanks had pale yellow wash, tail had rufous, 2 faint wing bars, head was fairly light, bill was dark, throat and upper breast were whitish-gray. There was a Great Crested Flycatcher in same area for comparison.
: Other birds in the area: 5 Sandhill Cranes (1-2 looked like immatures), Northern Bobwhite, Black-bellied Plover and Pectoral Sandpiper.
: Further south on Aerojet Rd. we found 8 warbler species in the "Annex" area: Yellow, Northern Waterthrush, Prairie, American Redstart, Prothonotary, Northern Parula, Black-and-white and Yellow-Throated. Also of interest: Swallow-tailed Kite, Northern Harrier (male), Yellow-billed Cuckoo and 3 woodpecker species.
: The last stop was Kingman Drive (Florian's Marsh). We saw same species as Brian had yesterday, minus Limpkin and Greater Yellowlegs. We added Wilson's Plover and Western Sandpiper.
