Linda McCandless and I went to visit the Snail Kites at the C8 impoundment cypress stand in the Refuge again on Friday evening. Gorgeous clear night with a nice breeze. Four of the Kites were already in the roost at 6:30 when we arrived. The rest came in slowly over the next 1.5 hours. There were at least 17 or 18 again when we left. Other interesting birds seen while hanging out on the bench by the C8 impoundment were a pair of Yellow-billed Cuckoos in the fringe east of the Marsh Trail, two Prairie Warblers, heard a Barred Owl, watched lots of swallows give way to Nighthawks as the sun went down, and watched the waders head west against the setting sun to their roosts. Don't miss this sight!
