The investigation started below in July posting continues. The mystery bird at the MHOC church site Sawgrass and University appears about every two-three days. Two members of the grounds committee for the church saw one of the three birds, again in the solitary cypress by the church entrance, at 7:25 PM. The bird is extremely wary and defies all attempts to approach even with the best of cover. However....this time when the bird flushed it glided northward away from the observers with slow wing beats and distinctive upswept wing tips. We are suspecting (according to Shipley pg 119) that this is a short-tailed. Whatever the food source in the area, these birds are comfortable with it as they are now present for almost a month.
