Recently I shared of the experience with the nuthatches. (See below). During the two hours or so I was watching the nuthatches and towhees I heard a repeated trill call from the Pine area. I heard this same call back along one of the trails a month earlier. I have reviewed the call through Thayers and believe it to be a dark-eyed junco. It doesn't call all the time but enough so that it was easy enough to get the pitch, tempo, and strength of the call. I realize that juncos pass through. But these two experiences make me suspect that maybe one or more hang around here.
I am familair with cardinals and towhees and it was neither as there was no prelude on the call as a cardinal has. Also the trill was fast.
And having just returned from Yellowstone where juncos were abundant I learned that call.
Just a field note. I claim nothing else as there was no sighting on either occasion. The call came from the mid to upper level of the pines.
