Mangoes and our birds

It seems that the blue jays are particularly fond of my slowly ripening mangoes.
I have heard of people using ( aluminum) pie pans in the trees to scare them away from the fruit. Will this work?
They have been picking on one particular fruit, so I just let them keep picking on that same fruit, hoping they will leave the other fruits alone, since that seems to satisfy them.
Any suggestions? What about the spot-breasted orioles, do they eat the mangoes as well?
