This morning Paul Bithorn and Brian Rapoza joined me in quest of some beer birds, and some beer fish. Overall it was a very slow morning, but we had some rewards for our effort. We started at Fowey Rocks Lighthouse where we had 4 juvenile Brown Boobies along with many cormorants, with least and royal tern. We then headed offshore, where the ocean seemed devoid of life. We saw a total of 3 Bridled Terns and 2 Sooty Terns. We put extra effort in trying to locate a wilsons' storm petrel, but only managed great looks at a Band-rumped instead. Rats, I hate when this happens. We found a decent weedline in 430 feet of water and trolled a small lure. Within minutes Brian caught his life Dolphin, and at 20+ lbs was a fine example. Back at the marina, we saw an immature Great Black-backed Gull on a sandbar just inside Bear Cut bridge. Best part of the trip was that Paul gave me his secret recipe for Bonito. I can't wait to try it! Not a great day, but life is still good, especially for Paul who is having a celebratory libation to go along with fresh sashimi mahi. Cheers!
