The other day while playing soccer my friend and I had a friendly arguement over whether or not the swifts were bats or birds. He was not convinced, especially since he only started to notice them close to nightfall. I then promptly beat him at a game of one-on-one. I have seen quite a few more swifts in Miami Shores this year than last year.
There are also a lot of psittacids and orioles around. I have already located a couple fledgling orioles in Miami Shores and Biscayne Park, including one pair feeding a juvie in my yard. Now is the time to look for orioles guys! I have seen at least fifteen individuals in the past week without looking for them. They have families to feed and are vocal, especially the hungry young. I have seen many White-winged Parakeets, Orange-winged Parrots, and Chestnut-fronted Macaws lately too. I see and hear them several times daily at the soccer fields and basketball courts at the Miami Shores Recreation Center.
