Greetings,
Cynthia Plockelman and I went to the Lox NWRefuge last evening (Sunday) hoping to see the Snail Kites come into roost and we were not disappointed. I want to be sure to thank Kathy Walters for posting this info, as it was a wonderful sight. We arrived at about 6:30 and walked south from the Marsh Trail parking area to the bench beside the C8 impoundment which Kathy had mentioned and settled in to watch the sunset and wait for the birds. The Snail Kites did not start arriving until 7:40 pm and they came in two or three at a time in a steady stream from the north east to the cypress stand where they have been reported. By 7:55, 18 had arrived, but we had to leave and did not see if the last one previously reported had made it back. The birds perched on the top of the trees and also on the scrubby growth just south of the cypress, so, as Kathy said, the best view is definitely from south-east of the stand looking back north. It is a wonderful sight!
