That was Sandy Sprunt's opinion. There was one banded bird from the Yucatan flock seen at Snake Bight I believe. Also there are colonies on the north shore of Cuba in protected military areas.
Her Is what I remember of Sandy's reasoning. About 20 years ago the Flamingos at Hialeah stopping breeding. They called the office of TAS, and I called Sandy. He had no suggestions, but one of their employees eventually thought of turning on their sprinkler system. This was a year or so later. The birds nested and next year juvenile
birds appeared at Snake Bight again.
He also once told me that USFW classified the Hialeah Racetrack flock as "wild'. This seems strange to me.
Last week Don Chinquina, former executive director of TAS, reported a flock of 10+ flamingos in one of the conservation areas. He sent photos, but I was not able to open the attachment.
