Steve,

I have tried half a dozen times in the past year at the linear park next to Fort Lauderdale Airport, but to no avail. Did see two Smooth-billed Anis at the aforementioned Holeyland/Rotenberger sight on Saturday, August 3. Tripped over a Tropical/Couch's (90% sure it's a Tropical) at the Miami Sod Company farm on Brown's Road as well.Strange, but true.

: Is the Fort Lauderdale Airport location ani-less? Haven't heard anything about that spot in awhile...

:
: : The most reliable sight I know is on the road into the Holeyland/Rotenberger W.M.A. which is on the west side of US 27 on the Broward/Palm
: : Beach County line an about a one hour drive from MIA. The colony is usually in the area, where the pavement turns into a dirt road. Excercise extreme caution as there are large trucks going in and out as part of the constuction of the Everglades C.E.R.P. Also, listen for Black Rails along the road, while you are there. If no luck, try SR 827 to the west as you travel further north on US 27 on the way to South Bay.Look for shorebirds in this area, which has sod farms, flooded fields and rice farms harboring a great diversity of species from this gfamily at this time of year.
