A Connecticut Warbler was observed on the nature trail directly behind the Crandon and Biscayne Nature Center around 11:00am this morning (5/18/06). The bird was walking along the trail in a densly vegetative area that was recently flooded by the rains. As it flew and disappeared into the understory, the bird gave a sharp metallic "plink" call. I have suspected that Connecticut Warblers occurred in the Crandon Park Bear Cut Preserve each spring, but this is the first time observing one after several years of searching.
Also as a follow up to the flamingo sighting on 5/13/06, a flock with 10 flamingoes were observed on our Eco Adventures boat tour on 5/10/06, off the southern tip of Key Biscayne. The birds circled over the Cape Florida lighthouse before flying south to Soldier Key (Sorry for the late post).
