turnpike birding

As I was driving to Leesburg via the turnpike, I was in the wildlife area ( around Yeehaw) and a pileated woodpecker flew across the turnpike ( no, it was not an ivory bill).
I actually was caught off guard, but I wondered why that "crow" had a red head.
Also saw some glossy ( black ) ibis.
As many of you know, in the winter, very often you can catch a pair of Sandhill cranes alongside the road.
Birding is a constant "job"...
