Nancy Freedman and I were joined by eagle-eyed Alex Harper this year. It made a difference. Our Kingboyds team racked up 127 species last weekend. We started on Friday (the 21st) at 5:45pm, birding Enchanted Forest and other areas in NE Miami-Dade. The next morning, we assembled at FIU to start our run west out the Tamiami Trail. We stopped at several locations along the trail reaching Marco Island around noon.

Marco was somewhat disappointing (we didn't even get godwits). We then headed back east through Hendry county, reaching the Miami Canal Barn Owls at about 5:15. We found some flooded fields as we headed toward US-27 which provided our last bird of the day (Long-billed Dowitcher). We were still searching the fields for more when time ran out at 5:45.
