Your assistance is requested for the spring edition of the North American Migration Count (NAMC), which takes place on Saturday, May 13.

Similar to Christmas Bird Counts, NAMCs attempt to obtain a snapshot of the progress and shape of spring and fall migration. Also like CBCs, all birds are counted, not just migrants. Unlike CBCs, the area of a NAMC is not a circle, but the boundaries of a county. The idea is to have a contiguous interlocking set of non-overlapping counts across North America. It is thus desirable to get as much of each county surveyed as resources permit.

If you are able to find and identify birds and you'd like to assist in Miami-Dade or Monroe Counties, please e-mail me (brianrapoza@aol.com) to let me know which area you'd like to cover. I'll forward to you a NAMC checklist and rare bird form. Even if you can only cover your backyard (feeder data is most welcome) or neighborhood, or can only count for part of the day, your participation is encouraged. To avoid double-counting birds, it's crucial that coverage areas not overlap that of other participants. That's why you need to coordinate with me BEFORE May 13.

Looking forward to your participation,

Brian Rapoza
