Everglades, Palmetto Bay, and Dry Tortugas

I have a few birding updates...

1) I had no luck searching for the Western Spindalis Tuesday evening after work. I hope that he stays around, as I might be able to visit in the morning later this week. I did see quite a few American Redstarts, Black-throated Blue Warblers, and two Cape May Warblers along Gumbo Limbo trail.

2) We discovered a female Muscovy Duck on a nest in the bushes on the fourth floor balcony of the Palmetto Bay Village Center (Old Cutler Road and Eureka Drive). It was quite humorous the first time I spied the female and her 12 ducklings marching by my window. It was a safe location for the nest, but with a steep drop onto concrete, I think the mother forgot to consider her exit strategy!

3) As a National Park Service intern right now, I was quite lucky to visit Dry Tortugas National Park earlier this month with park researcher Sonny Bass. I've posted a small selection of my photographs online for those who are interested:
