Took an evening walk at Loxahatchee starting at 6:30PM. Not much action. A Prairie Warbler in the oaks at the entrance to the admin building. A few large waders in C-6. So I walked down the east side of the marsh trail again.
At about 7:20 the Snail Kites started to drift into the cypress stand at the North end of C-8. Within the next 20 minutes 15 had flown in to roost. Unfortunately the mosquitoes came with them.
The best view is to walk a little further south to the middle of the dike on the East side of C-8 and look back north. The Kites seem to like to settle on this side of the cypress.
Right now the gate to the refuge closes at 8:30pm.
