We first noticed urban nesting Cooper's Hawks
three or four years ago on the University of Miami campus. The nest was destroyed by a spring(May)
storm with the four young killed. The same year they nested successfully in Morningside Park and Virginia Gardens. There have been reports each year since(last year from South Miami). Evidently Collared Doves are a readily available food that is easy to capture. I could find no records of them nesting in Miami-Dade County previously(or
south of the lake).
