Sand Dollar Island/Tigertail Beach (Marco Island) In Trouble

Many readers have probably birded the famous Tigertail Beach area on Marco Island called Sand Dollar Island. This is the "roped off" island across the lagoon from Tigertail Beach on Marco Island (Collier County) that is designated as a critical wildlife area by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) because it is home to nesting Least Terns, Wilson's Plovers and other shorebirds in spring (now) as well as endangered Piping Plovers & threatened Snowy Plovers in winter. It is also where nesting sea turtles come to lay their eggs. There's an article in today's Naples Daily News about boaters who are now using this habitat to party, etc. since their "usual" place to do so is no longer extant due to tidal erosion. Some people are walking their dogs within the roped off area as well. To read this article, go to:
