On an early morning birdwalk this morning at Green Cay Wetlands in West Boynton Beach, spotted a very small sparrow (just slightly larger than a Palm Warbler a few inches away) with distinctive gray nape of neck, striped crown, brownish ear patch, brown mustache, clear breast, and very streaky back. It was feeding on the open ground on the northwesterly cedar island at the wetlands. Further investigation back home points to a clear id as a clay-colored sparrow. I see that it is considered rare in these parts, true? Any further information would be appreciated.
