Yesterday in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP I found an "interesting" silent Myiarchus flycatcher. It disappeared and was not relocated. Early this morning I found it again and had 4 good looks. I have to use "probable" because it vocalized only once this morning, giving a "rolling chatter" that unfortunately, is fairly Myiarchus-generic.

Field marks: Medium-sized Myiarchus flycatcher; large black bill; grayish-brown crown fading to grayish color on head and neck; pale yellow wash on belly and flanks, with subtle demarcation with grayish upper breast; primaries fall only to base of tail, which has hint of rufous from above and some rufous showing down the middle from underside; prominent tertial edging; "line" of rufous in primaries. I have not yet concentrated on wing bars, if any.

Directions: Enter the park, driving to south end of parking area C (toward lighthouse). Do not turn west. The bird was seen ~55 yards north of the southernmost end, on the west side. This is 20-22 parking spaces from the south end.

Photos: They are horrible, I know! The 2 from yesterday show the bill size, hint of rufous in tail and primary extension. The only shot today was through-the-bins and the bird turned its head. ARGH! Being computer-challenged, I will post the photos seperately.

The park is open 8 AM to sunset. The dirt Pond Trail begins at the southern end of the parking lot. Unfortunately, the dirt service road paralleling the parking lot is restricted, for authorized persons only. Beware of the traffic snarls created by Nasdaq 100 Tennis Tournament.
