Three years ago Cooper's Hawks were observed to be nesting in the urban areas of Miami-Dade County,
e.g. the University of Miami Campus, Morningside Park and Virginia Gardens. Last year they nested in the South Miami area(but not on campus). It is highly probable that this is due to the easy availability of Collared Doves now. No breeding Cooper's hawks were observed in southeast Florida
during the surveys for the breeding bird atlas so many years ago.
