Two Whimbrel at John U. Lloyd State Park, Broward Co.

This morning at 9:35am I observed two Whimbrel flying north over the Port Everglades south jetty. They were about 100 yards off Lloyd beach, flew over the jetty (calling), turned east out of the inlet, then continued flying north off Ft. Lauderdale beach. Thanks to Rangel for posting about the Whimbrel sightings south of here.

The sheltered sandy coves at the base of the jetty had a nice selection of shorebirds:

9 Spotted Sandpiper
4 Semipalmated Sandpiper
1 Western Sandpiper
2 Least Sandpiper
46 Sanderling
22 Ruddy Turnstone
8 Semipalmated Plover
