All of the previous records of Cuban Pewee in Florida have been birds from the Bahamas based on the calls. I was fortunate enough to have seen all three records. If Tom heard a bird from Cuba, it would be a first record for Florida! Cuban Pewees from Cuban sound very different from the birds found in the Bahamas! They even look a little different with the Cuban birds having a more crested look to them. Getting a sound recording of a calling bird would have been so good. I don't know if Tom was able to get any recordings, it sure would have been nice! With all of the electronics that people carry with them today, getting a recording is not hard. My cell phone can make excellent recordings that I could use to document a calling bird if I don't have anything else. Many SLR digital cameras can record video and sound which is very helpful for rare birds! Hopefully this bird will be re-found and photographed and recorded.

Cuban Pewee from Cuba compared to Cuban Pewee from the Bahamas is quite different in their voices and may warrant species status in my opinion. The Cuban birds have a more crested look as well! I have seen both birds were they are found. Let us get a DNA test going to be sure!
