Eleven birders joined me yesterday for a beautiful morning that was slow regarding birds. We started at the Miami-Dade College Environmental Center [thanks to Stacey Kaufman for giving us access and thanks to Shawn for opening the place]. We had 4 warbler species [all males except for 1 of the parulas]:
Black-and-white Warbler - 1 [taking advantage of the sprinklers in order to take a bath. It would also sing]
Cape May - 2
Northern Parula - 2
Black-throated Blue Warbler - 1
The most common bird was the Gray Catbird. We had at least 10.
1 female Purple Martin flew overhead.
Chimney Swifts were heard.
By the small lake we had a Great Blue heron and an Anhinga.
We afterwards headed to Kendall Indian Hammocks where we added a male American Redstart to the warbler list. A flock of Yellow-chevroned Parakeets flew overhead. We had all the usual residents.
Even though birding was slow, conversation with fellow birders is always pleasant.
Stephen
