Earlier today, March 20th, on the way to a Caloosa Bird Club field trip to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, I positively identified an early Least Tern flying around a newly man-made lake at a new development complex along Vanderbilt Beach Rd. about 1/2 mile before the junction of CR951 (Collier Blvd.) in North Naples. Seeing that spring doesn't officially make it here until later this afternoon, I declare this not only an early arrival date (for me) for Collier County for this species, away from such noted nesting locales as Tigertail Beach on Marco Island, but also an "official" winter record! Lol.

On another note, Alan Murray told me he saw a Black-hooded Parakeet (Nanday Conure) in the huge banyan tree at the Government Center at the intersection of Airport-Pulling Rd. & US Rte 41 in Naples. This was yesterday, March 19th at about 5:30PM. This may represent a new addition to Collier County's avifauna as I am not aware of any previous sightings for this species in the county.
