Seven birders joined me for yesterday's TAS carpool trip to the Lake Kissimmee area in Polk and Osceola Counties. We visited Lake Kissimmee State Park on the lake's west side in the morning and Lake Marian and Three Lake Wildlife Management Area on the lake's east side in the afternoon. Sunny skies, warm temperatures with an occasional breeze were the order of the day. The following birds were tallied during our tour:
Black-bellied Whistling-Duck - a flock flew over the Turnpike on our way back to Miami
Mottled Duck - one flying over the Turnpike
Wild Turkey - one on SR 60, another at Three Lakes WMA
Double-crested Cormorant
Anhinga
American White Pelican - many at Lake Marian
Brown Pelican - one at Lake Marian
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Little Blue Heron
Tricolored Heron
Cattle Egret
White Ibis
Glossy Ibis
Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Osprey
Swallow-tailed Kite - two at Three Lakes WMA
Bald Eagle - several, including one on nest, seen from the observation platform at Lake Kissimmee SP

Crested Caracara - a couple seen near Lake Kissimmee SP

Sandhill Crane - many, including at least two colts
Whooping Crane - one at the Double C Bar Ranch on Canoe Creek Road, 0.5 miles north of Joe Overstreet Road

Barred Owl - heard at Lake Kissimmee SP
Red-bellied Woodpecker

Red-cockaded Woodpecker - a pair seen along Road 5 in Three Lakes WMA
Pileated Woodpecker - one heard in Yeehaw Junction, another in the road (!) along US 441 north of Yeehaw Junction
Great Crested Flycatcher
Loggerhead Shrike
White-eyed Vireo
Blue Jay
American Crow
Fish Crow
Purple Martin - several at the gas stations in Yeehaw Junction
Carolina Chickadee - a couple near the entrance station at Lake Kissimmee SP
Tufted Titmouse - mostly heard, same location as chickadees

Blue-graw Gnatcatcher
Eastern Bluebird - several along Road 5 in Three Lakes WMA
Northern Mockingbird
European Starling
Northern Parula - many singing at Lake Kissimmee SP

Palm Warbler - including one individual of the eastern race at Lake Kissimmee SP
