I wholeheartedly agree with John. Some of the best migrant days I've had in both Spring and Fall have some after west winds. East winds will only give us a few of the most common Caribbean migrants, but the only hope we have of getting trans-Gulf migrants over here are west winds.

As to seabirds, the shallowness of the first 3 miles off our coast, and the relatively steep drop off after that, will cause most seabirds to stay far offshore except on the windiest days. I've done more seawatches than I can remember on some very windy days, and can count on one hand the number of good pelagics I've seen from shore. Let's face it, to see pelagics off Miami you need a boat. If only there was someone out there with a boat, preferably designed and built especially for pelagic birding). If only,
